FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What Does F.G. Blair Martial Arts Teach?

We teach a highly effective system of Korean martial arts called Tae Kwon Do. Our classes are self-defense oriented as opposed to sport/tournament oriented. We teach explosive kicks, punches, joint locking, and a myriad of techniques you’ll need if you ever find yourself in a position where you need to defend yourself.

Why Should I Study Tae Kwon Do?

For self-esteem, strength and a rigorous exercise program. We live in a society where a basic knowledge of self-defense is required and where the stress of everyday life sometimes takes its toll. Martial arts teach self-achievement, respect, and culivate mental and physical strength.

What Kind of People Study Tae Kwon Do?

People of all ages and backgrounds enjoy Tae Kwon Do. The study of any marti art develops self-discipline, self-control, and confidence.

Our students come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Some start as children and others as mature adults. It’s never too late to start!

Do martial arts programs create bullies?

No! As a matter of fact, we spend a great deal of time talking to our children about bullying and how to handle it — which is not to start with physical altercations if at all possible.

We stress, in all of our programs, that your martial arts training is ONLY to be used for self-defense purposes.

Is Tae Kwon Do for Everyone?

The answer is YES! Emphatically so. Unlike other styles of martial arts, Tae Kwon Do is designed to fit the individual’s needs. You don’t have to be young, flexible, or even in good physical shape. All that will come in time as you progress in the study of Tae Kwon Do.

What are the benefits of studying tae kwon do?

We have been talking about fitness and martial arts for years, even back during the times when many felt that studying martial arts was a form of violence and for brutes. Today many of our country’s leading doctors, educators, and politicians have discovered the overall benefit of an effective martial arts program. Some of the proven benefits are:

  • Increased flexibility
  • Increased strength
  • Increased local muscle endurance
  • Strengthening of bones
  • Weight loss
  • Improved memory
  • Increased longevity
  • Strengthening of connective tissue
  • Improved cardiovascular tissues
  • Improved self-image
Why should my child study martial arts?

Self-confidence does not come naturally for many children, but rather is developed over a period of time. As a child accomplishes new goals, his or her confidence level increases. Children become more self-confident in martial arts because they progress individually at their own pace and are not judged against others.
